Almost Home Week 1
I. The Certainty of Christ’s Return
- The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus will return.
- His return could happen at any time.
- Scripture repeatedly calls believers to watchfulness and readiness.
“Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” – Matthew 24:44
Key Truth:
We are not called to predict the day — we are called to be prepared every day.
II. Faith Over Fear
Many people become anxious or fearful when discussing the end times.
But Scripture teaches us:
- Do not be driven by fear.
- Let faith in the Lord overcome anxiety.
- God is sovereign and in control of history.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
Application:
End-times teaching should produce:
Hope — not panic
Confidence — not confusion
Faith — not fear
III. Major on What Matters
There are many details and interpretations about the end times.
We must be careful:
- Not to major on minor issues.
- Not to create unnecessary divisions.
- Not to argue over secondary matters.
Instead:
- Major on the Word of God.
- Focus on Jesus.
- Stay united in essentials.
“Study to show yourself approved unto God…” – 2 Timothy 2:15
IV. The Power of Prophecy
A. Old Testament Prophecy
Old Testament prophets like:
- Isaiah
- Daniel
Foretold the coming of Jesus hundreds of years before His birth — with complete accuracy.
This demonstrated:
- God knows the future.
- God keeps His promises.
- Jesus truly is the Messiah.
Fulfilled prophecy gave confidence to those who lived when Christ came.
B. New Testament Prophecy
- Just as the first coming was foretold, so is the second coming.
- Jesus spoke of His return.
- The apostles wrote about it.
- Revelation gives prophetic insight.
Therefore:
We must study our Bibles and be spiritually prepared.
V. Four Views of the Rapture
Christians hold different views about the timing of the rapture:
Pre-Tribulation – The church is taken before the tribulation.
Mid-Tribulation – The church is taken in the middle of the tribulation.
Post-Tribulation – The church is taken after the tribulation.
Pan-Tribulation – Not certain which view is correct, but confident it will all “pan out” in the end.
Important Reminder:
Our salvation does not depend on getting the timing exactly right.
Our responsibility is to be faithful and ready.
VI. How to Be Ready for the End
1. Be Right With God
- Confess your sins.
- Repent daily.
- Walk in obedience.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…” – 1 John 1:9
Readiness begins with a clean heart before God.
2. Watch and Pray
- Stay spiritually alert.
- Care about the things of God.
- Be faithful servants awaiting the Master’s return.
“Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.” – Matthew 24:46
Ask yourself:
If Jesus came today, would He find me faithful?
3. Stand Fast
- Live as if He is coming today.
- Do not drift spiritually.
- Do not fall back into the ways of the world.
- Be firm in your commitment.
Declare with Joshua:
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” – Joshua 24:15
Standing fast means:
- Serving faithfully
- Loving boldly
- Living holy
VII. A Daily Choice
Every day we have a choice:
Follow God and be ready for Christ’s coming
OR
Drift back into the ways of the world
Readiness is not accidental — it is intentional.
We must choose:
- Faith over fear
- Unity over division
- Obedience over compromise
- Watchfulness over complacency
Conclusion
Jesus is coming again.
We do not know when.
We do not need to fear.
We do not need to argue over every detail.
We simply need to:
Be right with God
Watch and pray
Stand fast
Let us live in such a way that if Christ returned today, we would rejoice and say:
“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” – Revelation 22:20
