The Apostle Paul

The life of the Apostle Paul is one of the greatest examples of transformation through Jesus Christ. Paul once called himself the “chief of sinners,” reminding us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Before becoming Paul the apostle, he was Saul of Tarsus — a man known for persecuting Christians. Yet Jesus personally called him to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles.

Paul’s calling did not happen overnight. Although he encountered Christ dramatically, he did not immediately begin his missionary journeys. Instead, he spent years preparing. Scripture and tradition teach that Paul spent three years in the desert learning from Christ, and nearly thirteen years passed before he fully stepped into his missionary ministry. This shows us that God often prepares us in private before using us publicly.

Paul’s transformation teaches three powerful truths for every believer:

1) A New Name

God changed Saul of Tarsus into The Apostle Paul, symbolizing a new identity and a new life. When we come to Christ, we are no longer defined by our past, our failures, or our sins. God gives us a new identity in Him.

2) The Old Nature Must Die

Paul had to leave behind his old ways, old mindset, and old life. True transformation requires surrender. We cannot walk fully in God’s purpose while holding on to the old nature.

3) Receive a New Purpose

God did not just save Paul — He commissioned him. Paul’s life became dedicated to spreading the Gospel and building the Church. In the same way, every believer has a God-given purpose that is greater than themselves.

Paul’s story reminds us that God can take the most unlikely person, transform them completely, and use them mightily for His kingdom.
