The Ten Commandments Week 1

Mar 30, 2025    Dave White

The Ten Commandments are the blueprint for how we should live our lives. Jesus gave two commandments to sum up the ten, which is first to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength, and the second is to love your neighbor like yourself.

In Exodus, God reminds the people that He is the One who brought them out of Egypt and that He has a relationship with them. The Ten Commandments are expectations of how we should live, not a requirement for being saved. Our obedience is our response to His grace. Therefore, we show our love for God by obeying His commands.

The first three commandments are about our relationship with God:

1. You shall have no other gods before God; the Lord God Almighty is #1 forever and always in all things.

2. Do not make for yourself any idols; never prioritize other things or people over God, even your family.

3. Do not take God‘s Name in vain; do not say you are a Christian and live like the world.

As Christians, we carry the name of God everywhere we go. We need to conduct our lives in a way worthy of Christ. Therefore, the Lord is #1 in our lives, nothing and nobody comes before Him, and we always keep in mind the way we live our lives is a reflection of Christ to the world.
