The Ten Commandments Week 2
The first four commandments are about our relationship with God. The last six are about our relationships with each other. There are rules in any relationship; there are expectations. Today's topic is the fourth commandment, which is about an expectation of "rest".
We lead busy lives. Here are five signs that indicate our lives are too busy:
1. We open ourselves up to sinful choices because we don’t spend time with God
2. Inconsistent emotions
3. When we’re really busy, we feel like we’ve accomplished very little
4. Emptiness inside
5. It’s hard to hear from God when we’re so busy
The fourth commandment says: Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
God wants us to take a day and cultivate intimacy with Him, grow closer to Him, take a break and rest and have quality time with Him and our loved ones.
God set an example with Himself resting on the seventh day after creation. He did not rest because He was tired, but to be an example for us to follow.
Four ways to “Be Easy”:
1. Have a time budget - plan to honor God with your time.
2. Build a top five list with your spouse and stick to it.
3. When we say Yes to something, we have to say No to something else.
4. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy by spending time with God.
Let us remain in the "Vine of God" so we can receive the life-giving sap of God's love and fellowship, in order to bear fruit for the kingdom. We must not be too busy to fellowship with God.
