Core Values Week 5

Nov 9, 2025    Dave White

At Christ Chapel, the core mission is to win the lost, disciple the found, heal the broken, and send the whole. This message focuses on the last value—sending the whole—and emphasizes that God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

The Greek word “idiotai” means ordinary, untrained, or common. It’s where we get the word “idiot.” The point: God often chooses those who lack credentials, status, or formal qualifications to fulfill His work. By today’s standards, even Jesus wouldn’t qualify as a pastor in America—no seminary degree, no experience checklist, not married —yet He was the ultimate example of God’s power through the ordinary.

Qualifications of an “Idiot for Christ”:

1) Obey Irrationally – Like Moses, Gideon, or the disciples, faith sometimes means obeying when things don’t make worldly sense.

2) Give Extravagantly – True generosity comes from the heart, not abundance. The widow’s offering and the early believers’ sacrifices show what it means to give until it costs something.

3) Do What Others Believe Cannot Be Done – God calls believers to act boldly in a world that doubts Him, just as David, Daniel, and the disciples did.

Empowered by the Same Spirit:

Jesus called ordinary men, but through the Holy Spirit, they did extraordinary things. That same Spirit empowers believers today. God never calls without equipping—His Word and Spirit give all we need to fulfill His will.

Becoming an “Idiot for Christ” – Three Phases

1) Believe the Gospel – A sincere, heart-level faith in Jesus Christ.

2) Give Comfortably, Then Deeply – Grow beyond initial faith by offering your time, gifts, and resources for God’s purposes.

3) Give Your Life for God’s Glory – Fully surrender your life to reflect and glorify Christ, even when the world calls it foolish.

Conclusion

To be an “idiot for Christ” means to be willingly foolish in the world’s eyes—obeying God, giving sacrificially, and pursuing what seems impossible through faith. The world may see foolishness, but God sees faithfulness.
